Senior Librarian

Dr. Mary Bassey is an accomplished Senior Librarian with a rich background in library sciences and a passion for promoting access to information and knowledge within the University community. With a career spanning several decades, She has been a driving force in the evolution of library services, embracing innovation while upholding the traditional values that make libraries indispensable pillars of society.

Dr. Bassey holds a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Library Science University of Calabar, Calabar and completed her Master Degree in Library Sciences (MLS) at University of Uyo, Uyo. Her educational background has provided a strong foundation for her extensive contributions to the field.

Starting Her career as Library Assistant at University of Uyo, Dr. Mary Bassey has steadily climbed the ranks, taking on progressively challenging roles. She has excelled in areas such as cataloging, reference services, collection development, and the integration of technology into library operations.

As a Senior Librarian, Dr. Bassey has emerged as a voice in the library profession. She has served on numerous committees and advisory boards, providing her expertise to shape the direction of library services within and outside the University. Known for her innovative approach, Dr. Mary Bassey has played a pivotal role in implementing programs that have expanded the reach and impact of the library within the community.

Recognizing the importance of connecting with the community, Dr. Bassey has been actively involved in organizing and participating in various events. From book clubs to technology workshops, she has strived to make the library a dynamic hub that caters to the diverse needs and interests of the community. Dr. Mary Bassey is deeply committed to fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging within the library.

A firm believer in the importance of mentorship, Dr. Bassey has dedicated time and effort to guide and nurture emerging talents in the field of librarianship by lecturing, supervising and publishing highly insightful content. She has actively mentored junior librarians, contributing to the professional development of the next generation of library professionals.

Dr. Bassey's legacy is marked by her unwavering commitment to the values of knowledge, accessibility, and community engagement. The impact she has made on the library profession and the individuals served by the library is a testament to her enduring dedication to the betterment of society through the dissemination of information and the celebration of learning.
